Junior Golf Bereavement Program in Westchester NY

A note from Kevin:

We started running our golf learning programs in 2002. It’s been an awesome adventure. Our junior programs are now getting the kids of some of our early programs!

We have been so lucky and appreciate having such a supportive community. And one of the times my family felt the support the most was when we unexpectedly and suddenly lost Terri, my wife and mother of our son Tommy. Tommy was 1 year old when Terri passed. Terri loved being at the club and working with the kids, and once Tommy came along, she would bring him up, and Terri would say, “You want to go see daddy?” and he’d say “gok dad” (he couldn’t say golf yet). Tommy became our little mascot.

Golf has been precious to our family. And it, along with the community, has been a source of support and stability during tough times.

I’d like to make golf a resource for children going through a tough time.

Working with the Treehouse and the Den for grieving children, both programs that Tommy and I participated in, my intention is to raise funds for kids to get free or discounted memberships to clubs, free or discounted instruction (private and group), free or discounted use of practice facilities, free or discounted entry fees to tournaments, free or discounted equipment, clothes, etc.

A Safe Junior Golf Bereavement Program in Westchester, NY

Grief is difficult for any family. For children and teens, safe and supportive environments can be especially important.

The Junior Golf Bereavement Series is designed to provide participants with a positive place to be, move, learn, and connect through golf. The focus is not competition or performance. The focus is comfort, confidence, safety, encouragement, and simple enjoyment of the game.

Participants do not need previous golf experience. Beginners are welcome.

In Connection With BCW Tree House

BCW Tree House, part of the Bereavement Center of Westchester, supports children, teens, and families who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or loved one.

Kevin Chin Golf’s role is to provide a golf-based community program in a safe and encouraging environment. BCW Tree House provides bereavement support resources and expertise for families navigating grief.

This golf series is not a substitute for grief counseling, therapy, or mental-health care. Families seeking grief support should contact BCW Tree House directly to learn more about its programs, intake process, and available support services.

What Participants Can Expect

The Junior Golf Bereavement Series is built around gentle introduction, encouragement, and connection. Sessions may include:

• Putting
• Chipping
• Basic full swing fundamentals
• Golf games and skill stations
• Range safety
• Golf etiquette
• Confidence-building activities
• Outdoor time in a supportive group setting
• Simple instruction for beginners and returning junior golfers

This is a low-pressure program. Students are not expected to perform, compete, or have prior golf knowledge.

This program is intended for children and teens who are navigating the loss of a parent or loved one and would benefit from a safe, positive, golf-based community activity.

The program may be appropriate for:

• Junior golfers who want a supportive group environment

A parent or guardian should complete all registration, communication, and waiver requirements for minor participants.
